About Me

Hi I'm Colin Here is some background information about me.

Early work history, back in the 1980's

After I left school I went straight into the world of work for about 8 years.

Nothing very exciting although I did work as a runner for a small film production company that made films for industry. This was great fun as I got to go to studios, film on location and get involved in editing the film which is so much more satisfying than working with video.

Sadly I left this job as I was not very well paid so I went to earn some money in a factory where I worked in the photographic department of a company manufacturing printed circuit boards. About 75% of my time was spent in a darkroom processing lith film. After two or three years I was running the department managing 8 staff which meant I got get into the daylight a bit more often.

I finally got fed up with the factory life and decided to go off and do some travelling and so went off travelling around the world. Over a two and a half year period I spent about 120 weeks outside of the UK!

Education

When I returned from my travels I decided to return to College at North East Surrey College of Technology. In Epsom. A slightly strange choice for someone from Shropshire but it was the only college in the country offering a BTEC HNC course on electronic imaging - the coming together of computers and photography. I did rather well passing all modules with distinction. This allowed me to go straight into the second year of a degree course at Bradford University. After two years I got a 2:1 in Electronic Imaging and Media Communications and headed back to the world of work!

Work history

Since I've graduated I've worked as a television researcher at Yorkshire television in Leeds, a CD-ROM editor for MacFormat magazine in Bath, and as an elearning specialist at the University of Wolverhampton.
